Amsterdam 2020 Abstracts
The Scientiae Conference that was going to take place 3-6 June 2020 at the University of Amsterdam was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The abstracts of the individual papers, panels, roundtables and workshops that were accepted for the conference can be found on this page. There is an overview of the individual participants and their paper titles, arranged in thematic clusters, and two documents containing the abstracts of the individual papers and the panels, roundtables and workshops that were accepted (both in alphabetical order). These documents are fully searchable (use ctrl-f to do so).
For more information on the 2021 conference, have a look at the Amsterdam 2021 page. We have reached out to all the participants of the Amsterdam 2020 conference on 28 July 2020. Cancelled: Amsterdam 2020
Dear Scientiae Community,
It is with great regret that we announce to you that the Scientiae Conference in Amsterdam in June 2020 has officially been cancelled due to the ongoing and growing threat posed by the coronavirus.
This has been a difficult decision to make since we were very much looking forward to meeting you in Amsterdam and the conference is still 12 weeks away, but our first priority is the safety and well-being of our participants. Now is not the time for international travel and organizing large conferences, even if the University of Amsterdam and the Dutch government have not (yet) instituted a travel or meeting ban for June.
We cannot predict what the situation will be like in a couple of months but since most of you will be booking flights and hotels in the near future, this seems the best course of action. We do not want you to risk your health, first and foremost, nor to risk losing money when sorting out your travel and accommodation. In addition, we are a small organization that cannot afford to cancel just a couple of weeks before the meeting and we would feel awkward about organizing a conference that is very much scaled-down and will therefore not live up to the expectations set by previous years.
We will look into postponing the meeting to a later date, either in 2020 or 2021, and inform you about this in due course. For now, we thank you again for your participation in our intellectual forum and we hope to meet you at a different time.
Sincerely, on behalf of the Executive Committee and Conference Committee,
Djoeke van Netten, Stefano Gulizia, and Karen Hollewand
